Chains of 10 to 150+ stores

Multi-store digital signage rollouts for retail chains

A chain rollout is a logistics job with screens in it. The hard part is never the panel count. It's getting the same result in store 90 as store 1, with one person accountable for all of them. We've done it for L'Occitane (150+ boutiques), Janie and Jack (115+ stores plus London) and CBD Kratom (55+ stores in under 10 days).

The playbook: survey, ship, install, go live

  1. Survey and standardizeWe survey representative stores, group them by format and lock one hardware kit and one mount per format. L'Occitane has three formats: flagship, boutique, mall outlet.
  2. Ship kittedDisplays and CrownTV players go to each store labeled for their wall. On CBD Kratom we moved to pre-assembled mount kits mid-rollout and would spec that from store one next time.
  3. InstallInsured local crews in all 50 states, scheduled before open or after close. Most stores are a single visit.
  4. Go live and runThe Dashboard is configured before the crew arrives, with permissions already set. Monitoring catches a dark screen before the store calls.

Three decisions that make or break a chain

One kit per format, decided before store one. CBD Kratom put the same 3,000-nit-class OM55B in every window, even the shaded ones. A two-tier spec would have saved a little per store and cost days in install decisions. The single spec is why 55+ stores took under 10 days.

Permissions designed in week one. L'Occitane's IT, marketing and store-manager tiers were specified before the first install. Retrofitting permissions after 150 stores are live is the most expensive fix in this business.

Fewer moving parts per store. Janie and Jack uses one media player and an HDMI splitter for six screens instead of six players synchronized over the network. One input, six outputs, nothing to drift. That also means one playback target per store in the CMS.

What we'd do differently

Honest list from our own rollouts. On Janie and Jack, mall window depths varied and the first wave needed field adjustments; we ended up with three standard stand depths and would start there next time. On L'Occitane, the brand team's content templates were built during the rollout; building them before store one would have sped up the early launches. On CBD Kratom, mounts were assembled on site for early stores before we switched to pre-assembled kits.

None of those stopped a store opening. They're the reason the second half of every rollout goes faster than the first.

Going international? L'Occitane's program is planning France, Luxembourg, the UK, Germany and Belgium on the same Samsung panels and Dashboard. Janie and Jack's London store already runs the US kit.

Budgeting a chain

Start from the per-screen ladder and multiply by format. A boutique format of one 55-inch window screen ($3,850) and one 55-inch cash-wrap screen ($3,450) is $7,300 per store before volume pricing. A flagship with a 2×2 wall adds roughly $16,000 to $17,200. Software is free for year one and $20 per screen per month after.

The full numbers are on retail signage pricing. For chains, CrownTV's multi-location overview covers the managed-service side.

Common questions

Multi-store rollout questions

How fast can you roll out to 50 stores?

It depends on how uniform the stores are. CBD Kratom's 55+ stores were done in under 10 days because one hardware kit fit every storefront. Chains with three store formats take longer because each format gets its own kit.

Do you need to survey every store first?

Not always. When the store formats are consistent, we survey a few representative stores and standardize from there. CBD Kratom needed no pre-install surveys at all. Flagships and unusual stores always get one.

Who controls content across the chain?

You decide. L'Occitane runs three tiers: IT has full system access, central marketing schedules chain-wide campaigns, store managers can only edit their own store. Since that was set up before store one, it hasn't generated permission tickets.

What happens when a screen goes dark in store 73?

Usually we know first. Every player reports status to our monitoring, and a failed CrownTV media player is replaced within 48 hours at no charge during a managed contract. Displays carry Samsung's 3-year commercial warranty and we handle the RMA.

Is there volume pricing?

Yes, on multi-store orders, and we'll match a signed competitive quote on comparable scope. Single-store prices start at $2,950 per indoor screen and $3,850 per window screen.
